A very sad day in internet history today as the famous Geocities has been turned off by Yahoo. I know alot of people will probably be angry at yahoo but i don’t really think the business is viable. One of the main reasons geocities was so successful in the beginning was that hosting was so expensive and difficult to setup back then. However these days that really isn’t the case as we see with all the free blog hosts etc.

I cant remember if i actually had a geocities page or not, can you guys? It was along time ago but i was floating around the web in 1997 trying desperately to get this html thing to work. I remember my first site was hosted on xzoom (a rival i think). I had all the usual “my first homepage” things like background music and animated gifs. Anyway i heard someone made a site to save some of the best geocities sites, Wired i think? Ill post it if i find it.
